Sky Bet Review

  • Offer 1: Bet £5 + Get £20 Free
  • Offer 2: Free £5 Bet Every Week
  • Requirements: Place £25 in bets in a week to qualify
  • Minimum Odds: Evens
  • Wagering Requirements: None

Sky like to do things differently, so instead of just giving you a matched bet or bonus when you sign up they give you membership of their ‘free bets club’ – which offers a £5 free bet every single week worth a very healthy £260 a year.

This promotion has been running for quite some time, although the requirements and values have been modified on an handful of occasions during that time, and we can’t see it going anywhere any time soon – so if you’re a regular betting man (or woman) a Sky Bet account is definitely worth adding to your arsenal.

In addition to membership to their bonus club, you can also receive a £20 free bet when you bet your first fiver. These two offers can be claimed in conjunction with each other, meaning it’s the sign up bonus that keeps giving!

How It Works

There are two parts to this offer, so we’ll look at them individually in this next section:

£20 Free Bet

The sign up free bet is pretty straight forward – register, deposit and place a bet of £5 or more at odds of evens or greater on any sport and you’ll receive the £20 bonus. Your bet must be a single, but can be each way if you so choose. The free bet is non withdrawable and the stake is not returned with your winnings.

Free Bet Club

Qualification for the bonus each week is based on placing bets worth a set amount during the week. At time of writing you need to place a total of £25 in real money (ie: not using free bets) in order to receive the free bet. The bets can be placed on any market on any sport, but only bets with odds of evens (2.0) or greater will count towards the £25 requirement.

Multiple bets are fine, so long as the cumulative odds are over evens. Their are a few excluded bet types, however, which include: Tote Pool bets, Forecasts, Tricasts and combination bets (eg: Lucky 15’s, Lucky 31’s, Patents, Heinz and so on).

For the purposes of this promotion, the week runs from 00:00 on Monday to 11:59 on Sunday. Everybody who has qualified for the bonus will have it credited to their accounts by 7pm on the Monday, and you’ll have 7 days to use them before they expire. Their are no wagering requirements on the bonus, but the stake is not withdrawable.

In order to keep receiving the £5 free bet each week, you need to keep placing your £25 in qualifying bets – if you miss a week, you’re ‘out’ of the club. Thankfully it’s very easy to get back in if you do happen to miss it one week, simply place a total of £40 in bets in a single week (again at odds of evens or greater) and you’ll not only receive the free bet for that week, but you’ll also be back in the club and will only need to place £25 in wagers the following week.

Again the two offers have slightly different rules and requirements so we’ll split our review into two:

£20 Free Bet

  • Place a single or each way bet worth £5 or more.
  • Bet can be placed on any market, but must have odds evens or greater.
  • Certain deposit methods may exclude you from the promotion – these include Skrill (formally known as Moneybookers) and Neteller. Debit/Credit cards and PayPal are OK though.
  • Free bet stake is not returned with your winnings.

Free Bet Club

The terms of the offer aren’t very restrictive at all, especially as you can still place bets that don’t meet the free bet club requirements – they just won’t count towards your total:

  • Place a total of £25 from Monday to Sunday to qualify for the £5 free bet.
  • Only bets with odds of evens or greater (or cumulative odds of evens or greater for multiples) count towards the total.
  • The following markets do not count towards the total: Tote Pool, Forecast, Tricast, Lucky 15, Lucky 31, Lucky 63, Patent, Trixie, Yankee, Canadian, Heinze, Super Heinze, Goliath.
  • Bets which have been cashed out do not count towards the qualification requirements.
  • Free bets will be credited by 7pm on the Monday immediately following the end of the week.
  • You have seven days to use the free bet before it expires. The stake is not returned with any winnings.
  • If you fail to claim the bonus in a week, you will need to place a total of £40 in qualifying wagers in a future week to receive the £5 free bet (after which the requirements revert to the normal £25).

Our Verdict

The initial sign up bonus is very generous. And whilst the minimum odds are on the high side (but nothing unusually so) we can’t really complain when you consider you’re getting a bonus worth 4x what you’re putting in and risking. This is definitely one worth claiming.

As for the free bets club… Whilst the value of each weeks bonus isn’t massive, it is consistent and certainly adds up over the year – especially if you’re a regular punter and were planning on placing bets on the weekends football anyway. In our eyes this is certainly something we’d advise making the most of by claiming on a regular basis, especially in those slow weeks when not much else is going on.

About Sky Bet

Sky Bet has been operational since 2002 are the brainchild of the broadcasting powerhouse, BskyB. The company are still bases out of Leeds, England and over the last decade or so have grown to become one of the leading bookmakers in the UK. What’s been interesting to see from Sky Bet is that they are very much targeted towards the UK marketplace and only offer their services to a handful of countries outside the UK.

In 2014 it was announced that Sky Bet would be selling the majority of their brand to CVC Capital Partners in deal reportedly worth close to £800million. Sky Bet has retained a 20% stake in the company however, and will also remain on as the driving force behind the brand moving forward.

Best features

The bookmaker probably has a more concise number of sports and markets than most, mainly down to the fact that they are much more targeted as to their player database than most. This actually works in Sky Bet’s favour, and whilst football and horse racing are the predominant sports behind the brand, as you would expect, there are still plenty of other sports to bet on as well.

The site is full of features and it’s one of the main reason why so many punters use Sky Bet. One of our favourite features is the Request a Bet section where you can tweet Sky Bet using the #requestabet to do just that, request a specific bet. These bets are generally made up of several things to happen in a match, but are a great way for a punter to bet on exactly what they are looking for.

The Super 6 is another feature that has proved hugely popular with Sky Bet punters. This is a free to enter football coupon where you need predict the correct score of three pre-selected matches from Saturday afternoon kick off’s. By getting all 6 corrections correct you will receive a jackpot of £250,000, with other prizes for getting as close to as possible.

The odds structure on site is actually very good with Sky Bet and we found that they were right up there with the best in the business. It’s been tough to find any flaws from the odds that we checked and the inclusion of the bookmakers price boost on selected market just adds to the overall value.

Ease of use

The bookmaker’s design is on foe the best in the business. It’s clean, modern, stylish and looks like no other in the industry, which is most definitely a good thing!
