The top of your list of priorities on New Year’s Day might well be simply to overcome the worst hangover you’ve had since about the same time the previous year, but with a full round of Premier League fixtures, you at least have some top football action to help ease the pain.
There are some cracking games taking place, but the pick of them has to be the London derby between Tottenham and league leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane. And with a 17.30 kick-off, even the wildest party animals should have regained enough focus to watch this match.
Both sides drew their last game – Spurs at home to Man United and Chelsea away at Southampton – but they each won their previous three league matches, so this should be a highly intriguing contest between two in-form teams. When the sides met at Stamford Bridge in early December, it was Jose Mourinho’s men who took the initiative to run out 3-0 victors, goals from Eden Hazard, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy showing that even without top scorer Diego Costa, the Blues are an attacking force to be reckoned with.
Since then, however, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have lost only once (in the Europa League against Besiktas) and have climbed to within two points of the Champions League places. With a confidence-boosting home draw against Man United under their belts and with three wins and four draws from their last eight home league games against Chelsea, the home side have reason to be hopeful coming into this one.
On the face of it, this appears to be a game that could go either way, and if you envisage an end to end affair, the latest betting offer from BetVictor could be of interest. The bookie will refund losing bets on a range of markets as a free bet of up to £10 if either Spurs or Chelsea win the match after being behind.
The offer applies to losing pre-match bets on any of the following markets: half time/full time, first/last/anytime goalscorer, scorecast, spincast, correct score. If you qualify for a refund the free bet of up to £10 will be credited to your account within 24 hours of the match ending and it will be valid for 30 days, after which it will expire.
Chelsea are rated at odds of around 7/1 with some bookies to win this one from behind, while Spurs to do likewise can be backed at odds as short as 14s. So while the likelihood of either happening is not amazingly high, the offer gives you an insurance policy on a range of betting markets and could well come to fruition.
In order to take advantage of the BetVictor offer we would suggest either backing the draw at half time with the visitors to win by the final whistle at odds of 4/1 or simply for Costa to score the opening goal of the game, also available at 4/1. If you are seeking a big money bet, however, you might consider backing a scorecast with in-form Harry Kane netting the first goal and Spurs to win 2-1, which comes in at very nice odds of 60/1.
