One of the biggest Manchester derby games for some time takes place this Sunday, with City travelling to United knowing that a defeat could see them finish behind their great rivals in the Premier League table come the end of the season.
City have been stuttering badly of late, most alarmingly in a 2-1 defeat at Palace last time out but also in defeats at Burnley and Liverpool and a 1-1 draw at the Etihad against relegation-threatened Hull. In contrast United have won their last five league games and there is talk of a late title charge.
This match in some ways sees two contrasting indicators come together. City have dominated the derby in recent years, winning the last four and six of the last seven in the league, but current form is very much with the Red Devils.
It will be very interesting to see how this one pans out and whilst the title is probably beyond both teams, the battle to finish third – and thus avoiding the dangerous Champions League qualifying round – is well and truly on. United have the second best home record in the country and that should be enough to see them through here but in a derby game and against a City outfit that is sure to be something of a wounded animal, anything could happen.
If you think you know what will transpire on Sunday afternoon and want a bet on the correct score, goalscorer, scorecast/spincast or half time/full time markets, then BetVictor have an offer which looks to provide a very valuable insurance policy.
Just place a £5 bet on any of those markets and if it loses BetVictor will refund your stake as a free bet if both teams score in the game. Given the attacking threat both clubs possess, that looks highly likely, meaning that there is a great chance of you claiming a free bet if your first wager doesn’t quite hit the spot. Based on United’s home Premier League games and City’s away, BTTS has happened 56% of the time and with so much at stake here we feel that percentage is bound to increase.
Whilst the free bet is a nice back up, the best way to profit from this promotion, of course, is to win your first bet and if that’s the goal the safest markets are the anytime goalscorer betting, where Wayne Rooney looks good at 17/10, or the half time/full time market, where our tip would be United/United at 18/5. Alternatively, if you fancy a real long odds shot at glory, how about City to really upset the odds and win 2-0, priced at 16/1? Placing a bet on a market where both teams don’t score slightly increases your odds of overall success and given City have won six of the last seven league derbies, who knows?
